Thanks For Buying One Of My Exclusive Custom Websites!
As you know, I will host it for free for the next 60 days, but it’s really in your best interest to move it to your own hosting as soon as you can because the files will be automatically deleted when 60 days are up and I wouldn’t want your site to become inaccessible if you lose track of time and forget to move it!
If you already have hosting, great! If not, I’d like to suggest the Hostgator baby account – it’s only $7.95 a month and you can have unlimited domains and websites on it. Plus if you buy through my link, then I’ll be able to help you with any questions as I use Hostgator myself and am quite familiar with it.
SETTING UP YOUR SITE
The first thing you will need to do is change the name servers on the domain to those that coincide with your hosting. You can get this information from your hosting support and, in fact should have received it in an email when you first signed up.
Changing The DNS Name Servers
The name server change is done in namecheap, so you will need to have ownership of the domain. If you haven’t sent me your namecheap username yet, then please send it to me now along with the domain name so I can push it to you. Once it’s in your account, you can change the nameservers – it’s pretty easy as you can see in the video below:
Installing WordPress
Next, you need to install wordpress– if you already know how to do that, then skip this first video. If you don’t know how, the video below is a short tutorial on how to use Fantastico to setup wordpress:
Importing The Database
The zip file that I sent to you has all the information (the posts, pages, settings etc…) in a sql file that needs to be imported into your wordpress installation. This isn’t as scary as it sounds! Here’s a video that shows you how easy it is (NOTE – your .sql file will probably be named something different, just look for the file that ends in .sql and that’s the one you need to import):
Uploading Your eBook & Custom Theme
Next, you need to get the files associated with your custom theme, plugins and ebook onto the server. This is an easy, simple ftp:
Activate Your Custom Theme And Plugins
Ok, we’re almost done! Next, you need to activate the theme and plugins and, once that is done, you should be all set and your blog should be fully functional! Here’s what you do:
Setup Your Affiliate Links
Last, but not least, you want to change the adsense and affiliate sections to have your links so that you get paid! Here’s how you do that:
Setting Up Your eBook Sales Page Info
If your blog comes with an ebook and sales page, you’ll need to add your own payment/download link (either a paypal link or a link from a download service like Digital Product Delivery).
Usually this entails mucking around in a lot of HTML code, but I’ve made a custom script that allows you to edit one file and change a variety of things on your sales page. The script is located in your …/ebook directory and is called config.php – the video below explains how to use it:
How To Get The Thumbnails On The Homepage
Here’s what you have to do to get those little thumbnails to show up on the hompage posts:
By default, your plugins should be all set up for you, but if you want to tweak them here are some short videos on each one.
All-In-One-SEO – improves the SEO of your site
Tube Press – adds youtube videos to your site
Privacy Policy – This privacy policy generates a page that complies with Googles TOS
Featured Content Gallery – if you have the photo gallery on the site you purchased, then this video will show you how to set it up (if you don’t have the photo gallery, then just skip this video).
